Metal parts design assistance and manufacturing

 

Zechin’s engineering and design teams are led by our resident "problem solvers" Jack Zhang. Teams collaborate with customers and prospects to design; research new parts; automate processes on the production floor; and repair parts and build assemblies from scratch.

 

Zechin’s design assistance process

Customers explain their component or part demands by sharing CAD drawings.  Sometimes all they can give us is a simple hand-drawn sketch as their idea, or a picture of an existing assembly they want to modify. CAD drawings are often clearly marked with important details of the design process. This made the process of designing our solution relatively smooth.

 

We believe the best solutions are built on solid foundations, so basic drawings mean there will be some back and forth between us and the client. For example, a client sent a picture of a panel and asked if we could make it. The answer is, "Technically, yes, but we need a lot of information to get there."

Jack says he can tell right away if a drawing is in the company’s wheelhouse. Zechin has a systematic approach for handling engineering and design challenges. 

 

Jack has many years of hands-on experience in Zechin’s areas of expertise, including assembly, bending and welding. He proposes options for customers, such as using CNC pipe bends instead of welding,  to minimize production time and costs.

A recent challenge

A recent challenge was to make a hole on the bends of tube. The hole is not a standard hole and it was right on bends, and it was only made on one side not punch through. Because of the hole position, it could not be done before bending, otherwise the hole shape will be deformed; so, the hole must be finished after bending; and it also could not put on milling machine, because of its thin wall thickness. Tube laser cutting is only useful before bending. Then How to do it ? Our engineer figured out to cut the hole on Sheet laser cutting machine. But it was easy to cut it through both sides, so we have to make a tooling to it into the tube and then cut. Looks solved? Not yet, not that easy. Jack still adjusted the toolings for several time to make the hole correctly.

Sometimes, a single process looks quite simple, but it just looks simple, when it needs to be done, the problems will occur.

 

So our role is to be a problem solver for our customers, and accomplish demands and deliver the goods to customers with good conditions.
