THE METAL FABRICATION PROCESS: ASSEMBLY & WELDING

HARDWARE INSERTION

Many fabricated metal parts require special tools such as PEM fasteners, studs or standoffs to be connected for their purpose. Zechin Industries Use CNC programmable hardware insertion machinery and equipment to automatically mount nuts, studs, standoffs or fasteners of virtually any size. This device and technology helps speed up the insertion process, saving time and labor, and minimizing hardware loss or incorrect risk.

Countersinking

The Zechin Industries team has helped more with design consistency and quality improvements. The Countersinking is a manufacturing method that can form a tapered hole for inserting rivets, bolts or fastening devices. The fastening device can then be flush with the surface of the metal sheet.

The benefits of the countersinking include improved part appearance and the elimination of raised screw heads that may catch clothing or skin.

While thinner metal sheets are generally not buried, there are guidelines to try and follow thicker sheets to maintain the strength of the material and prevent deformation during forming.

· The distance between the two countersinks should be at least 8 times the thickness of the material.

· To ensure strength, the distance between the edge of the countersink and the edge of the material should be four times the thickness of the material.

· There should be at least 50% contact between the fastener and the countersink surface.

· To prevent any deformation of the hole, the edge of the countersink should be at least 3 times the thickness of the material of the curved cut point.

 

WELDING

Many of the parts and assemblies we manufacture are supported by welded or welded structures. Our welders have the expertise and experience to understand which welding method can provide the strongest and most reliable welding for any given application.

Put the parts together and start with the renovation. Each component is held in place as needed, and if possible, we will also design the notched part so that the welder can be easily aligned for improved accuracy and strength. Then welding is done to hold everything together. This is the only way to connect long welds together.

Zechin Industries uses a variety of arc welding equipment, including metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and spot welders. The main difference between MIG and TIG welding is that MIG welding uses a continuously fed wire spool that burns quickly, melts and fuses the two metals together. You can MIG or "weld" a variety of materials such as mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum. A range of material thicknesses can be soldered from thin gauge metal sheets to heavier structural panels.

On the other hand, TIG welding supplies long electrodes very slowly and finely. TIG welding is more commonly used for thinner gauge materials, which requires more skill. Items made using this process include kitchen sinks and tool boxes.

There are some guidelines to try and follow when designing metal parts that need to be welded:

· Manual welding should be limited to specifications thicker than 20 gauge.

· Spot welding should be used to join the same thick surface.

· Welded joints should be designed to the tightest possible tolerances to prevent the welder from adding wires. 


CONCLUSION

Not every customer or job needs to be soldered. Depending on the final application, riveting, threading or bonding may be more appropriate and easier to replace. All welds can be cleaned by grinding and polishing and can eventually look like a solid metal.
